Archives & Other Files
Extract an archive, inspect a ZIP before saving selected files, or calculate a checksum.
How to use it
- Right-click an archive in Finder and choose MacEase > Extract, or Browse Contents… for a ZIP.
- In the ZIP browser, search the hierarchy and preview a file. Save only the entries you need.
- For any file, open Checksum to calculate a hash. For a folder, use Compress to create ZIP, 7z, TAR, or tar.gz.
What you can do
- Extract
- Unpack ZIP, 7z, TAR, gz, bz2, xz, or RAR into a new folder.
- Browse Contents…
- Search a ZIP, preview files, and save only what you need without unpacking it.
- Decompile
- Turn a JAR into Java source with bundled CFR and an installed Java runtime.
- Checksum
- Calculate SHA-256, MD5, SHA-1, or SHA-512 for any file.
Support and limits
- Extraction supports ZIP, 7z, TAR, gz, bz2, xz, and RAR. Creating RAR archives is not supported.
- ZIP browsing supports up to 100,000 entries, 32 MiB of name/extra metadata, and 256 path components. An individual preview can expand up to 256 MiB.
- Previews never execute HTML or scripts. Closing removes temporary previews; explicitly saved files remain and support Undo.
- JAR decompilation uses bundled CFR and requires an installed Java runtime discoverable by macOS. SHA-1 and SHA-512 are hidden by default.
Saving and Undo
Conversions and edits save a new file by default. Replace original verifies the result before moving the source to the Trash. Undo can skip files changed since the operation or originals no longer in the Trash.
